Christian Biography of Kenneth D. Steinkruger

Dean Steinkruger , of Kearney, formerly of Franklin, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Verterans' Home in Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 86 years. He was born on September 5, 1924 in Macon, Nebraska to Henry and Lydia (Faulker) Steinkruger. Dean was one of three children.

Dean was a graduate of Franklin High School. He served in World War II in the United States Army were he was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Dorothy M. Schmidt on February 15, 1948 at Franklin, Nebraska. To this marriage seven children were born. Dean and Dorothy farmed and raised cattle on a farm near Franklin, Nebraska until they retired. They enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and trips around the United States. Dean was active in the local Democratic Party, was a member of the Macon Lions Club, American Legion, VFW and served on the COOP Board.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy on September12, 2010; sons, Steve and Kenneth Russell; daughter, Julia; his parents and his brother Bill Steinkruger.

Kenneth is survived by his son, Dave Steinkruger of Bellevue, Ne, daughter, Lori Nelson (Marty) of Denver, Co., son, Scot (Shelly) Steinkruger of Juniata, Ne., daughter, Lynn (Ron) Meyer of Hastings, Ne., grandsons; Russ Meyer, Jason Meyer, Jake Meyer, Trevor Steinkruger, Andrew Nelson, Tyler Nelson, Dylan Steinkruger, granddaughters, Sara Steinkruger and Kenna Steinkruger; great-granddaughter, Elle Meyer; great-grandsons, Joseph Meyer, Carson Meyer, Isaac Meyer, Brendon Meyer and Ashton Meyer; sister, Joann Petersen, sister-in-law, Lela Steinkruger and a host of friends and relatives.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 12, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church in Franklin.

Friends may stop in to sign the book Wednesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 11th between 8:00 AM and Noon.

Inurnment will be in the at Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin, Nebraska with full military rites.
