Doris Beck passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Franklin, Nebraska, at the age of 96.
Doris Virginia, youngest of four, was born February 12, 1912, to Jerry M. and Sallie Edna Bowers Clow. At that time the family lived south and a little west of Riverton on what was known as the Holdrege Farm. Later, the family moved closer to Franklin on the Republican River.
Doris attended country school District 32 for five years and then she and her sister attended Franklin High School, District 33 and graduated in 1928. She stayed on the farm and did work for her Mother and Father who farmed.
On March 3, 1933, she and Chester Raymond Beck were married, and they lived in Franklin at the time. They took care of the Franklin High School Alumni names and addresses for 26 years. Doris lived in Franklin her entire life and worked both for the Franklin County Sentinel and for the Franklin County Superintendent of Schools. Chester preceded Doris in death in 1989 after almost 56 years of marriage.
Doris was the first President of the Franklin Ladies V.F.W. and a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge 173 and served in all offices, even District President. Doris was a faithful member of the Franklin United Methodist Church for almost 85 years.
Two daughters were born to Chester and Doris, Sharon Lynne Beck Prusia of Lakewood, CO, and Lynne Marie Beck True of Dallas, TX. Sharon preceded Doris in death in 2007.
Doris was also preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Edna Clow; a brother and sister-in-law, Paris and Hattie Ackerman Clow; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Clow and Jay Palmer, and Bernice Clow and Ed Bobbitt.
Doris is survived by her daughter Lynne and husband Roland Simon of Dallas, TX, Son-in-Law Charlie Prusia of Lakewood, CO, Granddaughters Allison Prusia Thomason and husband John, of Lakewood, CO, Kathryn True Tibbits and husband Gordon of Edmonds, WA, Michelle Lynne True of Aurora, CO, and great-grandchildren Nick Thomason, Lucy Tibbits, Miles Tibbits, Emma Tibbits, and Audrey Tibbits.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at the Franklin United Methodist Church, Franklin, Nebraska with Rev. Neil Kloppenborg and Rev. Herman Keen officiating. Visitation will be 8AM to 8PM Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Hutchins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6PM to 7PM.
Memorials are suggested to the Franklin United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Restoration Fund.
