Gustave "Gus" Rohnke passed away from this life on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 89. He was born to Frank and Katie Pullman Rohnke on August 31, 1921 in Macon, Nebraska.
He attended District 75 country school in the Macon area. He was a farmer in the Macon area raising cattle and hogs. Horses were his life with him being an owner and trainer of Quater Horses. He owned the very first World Champion Cutting and Healing Horse in 1974.
He is survived by his son Steve Rohnke, Lincoln, NE; brothers Richard Rohnke and wife Almetta, Holdrege, NE; Wert Frerichs and wife Maurine, Minden, NE; sisters Adeline Frerichs, Gurley, NE; Rosie Loschen and husband Harold, Wilcox, NE; Sister-in-laws: Irene Frerichs, Minden, NE and Suzie Rohnke Sherry, Oceanside, CA; and brother-in-law Clarence "Pete" Schluntz.
He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Albert and Eddie Rohnke; sister Katie Schluntz; half sister Marie and Aaje-Marie Frerichs; half brother John Frerichs, brother-in-law Herman Frerichs and sister-in-law Janice Rohnke.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Thursday, Septermber 23, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Hutchins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Macon, Nebraska. The family suggests memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church.
