Marie Zelza (Schenk) Puckett was born December 13, 1913, in Smith County, Kansas, to Joseph and Zelza (Bates) Schenk. Marie died November 2, 2012, at the Golden Living Center, Franklin, Nebraska at the age of 98 years.
She attended rural school District 95 in Smith County, Kansas, and graduated from the Franklin Public School in 1931. After graduation she was a substitute teacher for two years. She worked in the bomber plant in Omaha, Nebraska, for a short time and then began working at the Rightway Grocery Store. She was an employee of the Rightway Grocery Store for 55 years, retiring at the age of 87.
Marie was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary of Franklin. She enjoyed traveling, visiting many places, including- New York, Canada, Yellowstone National Park, California, Mexico, and Alaska. In 2002, with the assistance of her daughter, she took pictures, contracted, production, and sold afghans depicting Franklin County. She also enjoyed growing plants, flowers and gardening.
Marie is survived by a son, Gary Puckett of Columbus, Nebraska; a daughter, JoAnn and husband, Robert Crammer of Bay City, Texas; seven grandchildren - Sue Holton, Dr. Robert Crammer, Bill Puckett, Roxanne Backes, Aimee Michener, Jim Puckett, and Sheri Atkins; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother- Dean Schenk of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers - Floyd, Gilford, Harold, Roland, and Lynn Schenk; and a daughter-in-law - Ann Puckett.
A celebration of life service for Marie (Schenk) Puckett, will be December 15, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska. Bearers will be - Don and Lori Kahrs. Honorary bearers will be the Grandchildren - Sue Holton, Dr. Robert Crammer, Bill Puckett, Roxanne Backes, Aimee Michener, Jim Puckett, and Sheri Atkins. Inurnment will be in the Stone Cemetery, rural Smith County, Kansas. Friends may sign the book and pay respects to Marie Puckett, Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, PO Box 211, Franklin, Nebraska. Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements.
