Marjorie Bergman

Marjorie Pearl (Patton) Bergman was born July 13, 1918 on a farm in Franklin County, Nebraska to John and Elsie James Patton. She passed away from this life on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Franklin County Hospital, Franklin, Nebraska at the age of 92.

She taught school for one year in District 47 the Erickson School. On April 23, 1936 at Smith Center, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Howard Bergman of the Spring Valley Community. They were blessed with three children, Jolene Sindt, James Bergman, and Janea Kahrs. In 1949 a parcel of land was given by Marjorie and Howard to start a Spring Valley Methodist Church where they attended and were members of the church until its closing in 1974.

In 1973 they moved to Riverton and were associated with the Riverton Assembly of God Church. Marjorie lived in Riverton until moving to Assisted Living in July of 2008 where she had been residing. She was an active member of the Spring Valley Women's Club and the Harmony Riders Saddle Club. She was a lover of flowers and birds and was often found in her secret garden tending to her many plants and flowers.

Her birds were very special to her and she spent many hours sitting at her kitchen window drinking coffee with friends and watching the many birds that came to her feeders. She had as many as six pairs of red birds at one time. If you ever went to Marjorie's home, you had to come in and have a coffee, pies, cookies or her favorite, cinnamon rolls.

She is survived by her children Jolene Sindt and husband Ralph, Riverton, NE; Jim Bergman, Riverton, NE; Janea Kahrs and husband Bill, Franklin, NE; her youngest sister Virginia Laux, Minden, NE; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, parents, brothers- John, Gilbert, and Guy Patton; sisters- Jessie Burg, and Nellie Meyer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30AM, Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Audrey Beaty and Rev. Frank Alexander officiating. Visitation will be at 12PM to 8PM Sunday at Hutchins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverton Cemetery, Riverton, Nebraska. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be given to the Franklin Senior Center or Donor's Choice.
