Richard "Rick" Alan DeRiese was born on March 24, 1970 to Leon DeRiese and Barbara (DeRiese) Detlefsen at Franklin, Nebraska. He died and entered into eternal rest with God on Friday, December 11, 2009 at his home in Naponee, Nebraska. Rick was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Nebraska on April 10, 1976 by Rev. Harold Onwiler. He attended the Franklin Public Schools from which he graduated with the class of 1988. After graduation, Rick worked as a mechanic and a farm hand. Throughout his life, Rick enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking things apart and putting them back together, mechanical work, and his dogs. He also enjoyed car racing, demolition derbies, and playing cards. He had an outgoing personality and loved having fun. He was a person who also took friendship with others to a very deep dimension, going so far as to donate a kidney for a friend. Rick leaves to treasure his memory his mother, Barbara Detlefsen of Minden, Nebraska; one sister, Teresa and husband Eric McDonald of Sterling, Nebraska; two step-brothers, Bryon Detlefsen, and Steve and wife Stephanie Detlefsen of Franklin, Nebraska; three nieces, Chelsea and Katie McDonald and Kendra Detlefsen; two nephews, Tanner McDonald and Jesse Detlefsen; a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon DeRiese; step-father, Les Detlefsen; and his grandparents. Memorial services will be at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, Franklin, Nebraska with Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Friends may sign the register from 9 AM to 8 PM, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Hutchins Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Rick DeRiese Memorial Fund.
