Robert Lee Sweet, also known as Bob, departed this life on May 31, 2010 at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colorado. He was 83 years old. He was born in Smith County, Kansas to Frank and Maggie Sweet on December 12, 1926. He was their youngest son.
Bob spent his childhood years on the family farm in Kansas and attended Liberty school through the eighth grade. The family then moved to Franklin, Nebraska where he attended the local high school. He worked at various jobs in and around Franklin. He was able to get a job driving heavy equipment which included working on the Harlan County Dam in Nebraska and the Kirwin and Stockton Dams located in Kansas.
On February 2nd 1950, he was united in marriage to Doris Metz. Two sons were born to this union, Willard (Bill) and Steven. In July 1956, he moved his family to Derby, Colorado and resided there for numerous years. During this time, he drove a cement mixer truck for Mobile Pre Mix until his retirement in 1985.
In later years he worked at Wal-Mart as a door greeter. He and Doris then moved to Culbertson, Nebraska in December 2000 making this their new retirement home. Wanting to be closer to his sons and their families and because of Bob's ill health, they moved back to Colorado and then resided in Longmont until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Edna Hagensick and Delilah Panter, and his brother Bert Sweet.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Doris, sons Bill (wife Judy), Steve (wife Sally), five grandchildren: Christine, Lisa, Jeff, Stacey, Shawna and six great-grandchildren: Carly, Ashlee, Jayden, Ally, Megan, Greyson and twins due in November this year.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, June 4, 2010 at Hutchins Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery following services. Visitation will be from 8 AM to service time Friday at the funeral home.
