Rose Maska

December 30, 1929 — December 12, 2017

Rose Kathryn (Davis) Maska of Franklin, Nebraska, was born December 30, 1929, in Beebe, Arkansas to Howard and Lucy May (Foreman) Davis. She entered heaven December 12, 2017, at the Franklin Care and Rehabilitation Center, Franklin, Nebraska.

Kathryn lived life to the fullest, and her enthusiasm rubbed off on those around her. As a dedicated member of Grace Lutheran Church, she gave of her time and talents in many ways: serving as church treasurer, singing solos, and volunteering as a pre-school grandma. Baking angel food cakes for church functions was her specialty. She was an avid follower of all sports, and she especially loved baseball. Kathryn cheered on her teams with exuberance! Playing cards and games, reading, and working crossword puzzles were favorites of hers. Adventurous and independent, she relished travel experiences. Kathryn enjoyed music, had a natural talent for playing the piano, and often shared her beautiful alto voice to comfort and encourage others.

Working at the telephone company for many years brought out her aptitude for numbers. Kathryn was more reliable than a phone directory recalling telephone numbers of Franklin County residents. She received the traveling award for the telephone company's performance index.

She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Organization L.W.M.L., Hillside Extension Club, and American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Kathryn found more joy in giving than receiving. She loved buying gifts for everyone for every occasion, and the beautiful way she wrapped these gifts made them even more of a treasure. Kathryn was a gift to everyone.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on July 1, 1990; her parents--Howard and Lucy May Davis; and two brothers--Charles and Warren. She is survived by:

nieces--Connie and husband, Stuart Yoder, of Omaha, Nebraska, Vickie and husband, Bob Hoeft, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Elaine Perlman; nephews--Ted and wife, Margie Maska, of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Glenn Davis; great nieces and nephews: Loren and husband, Brady Gilmore, Lee Yoder, Chadd and wife, Suzi Hoeft, and their children, Drew and Campbell, and Anne Hoeft and her fiancé, Eric Johnston, all of Omaha, Nebraska; and a host of other friends and relatives.

May we all try to live a little more like Kathryn, with her happy spirit, easy laughter, acts of kindness, and delight in small things.

A celebration of life service will be Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Franklin, Nebraska, with Pastor Larry McDermott officiating, Mrs. Laura Adam, organist, and casket bearers--Bob Hoeft, Chadd Hoeft, Eric Johnston, Stuart Yoder, Keith "Buster" Long, Kenny Joe Long, and Elmer "Tommy" Long. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin, Nebraska. A memorial charity will be named at a later date. Visitation will be Friday, December 15, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska. Online condolences can be left at www.hutchinsfh.com. Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
