On January 27, 1957, she married the love of her life, Bonnie Kahrs, at the Methodist Church in Franklin, they were happily married for over 67 years. Three children were born into this union: Julie, Roger, and Diana. Shirley lived most of her married life on the farm she and Bonnie purchased together where she resided until her death. She also played the organ and piano for the Methodist Churches in Bloomington and later Franklin. She also taught Sunday School. Shirley loved spending time with Bonnie and her family. She hosted all the holiday dinners, but Christmas was her favorite. She enjoyed having all her family come home on Christmas Eve. Some of Shirley’s most precious times were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her Granny. She spent countless hours enjoying time with them. In addition, Shirley enjoyed traveling, taking many trips with the kids when they were growing up. In retirement, she and Bonnie traveled to many places. For over 40 years, one of her favorite social activities was attending Marguerita Card Club with her friends. Other events were scheduled around this!
